Public servant at work

Ok. I kid.

It's been exactly one month since I started this job at the Ontario Ministry of Environment. My work is a repetitive task of receiving water samples collected from the Great Lakes stations, settling them in measuring cylinders over days to concentrate them at the bottom, then transferring and storing the vials of algal samples. Somehow I manage to complete them quickly, on top of other chores like updating the sample index and working with Excel spreadsheets.

Having my own cubicle and computer gives me time to play around a little. For example, I watched a majority of episodes of the US version of The Office right in the office during my spare time and breaks. The tech team did however restrict access to Facebook and YouTube. Besides, there are many other activities to do here (i.e. a gym facility, aerobics and dance classes, a table tennis table, street hockey, soccer and baseball games), all of which I've so far foregone in favour of internet-provided entertainment. Geek.

My supervisor and co-workers are nice folks - funny and lenient. I feel sorry for making them worry over having to find me more work to keep me busy, but I end up surfing the web anyway (when I'm done with my work of course).
