All books and no pay

The trouble with working in a bookstore is that a good chunk of my salary goes right back to the employer. Tasking every single day brings new books and also obscure ones to my attention so much more than just being a sales representative. I make mental notes of those that interest me, some will eventually escape me so I must thank my weak memory, but I often find myself at a cash register even before the books I bought prior have been read cover to cover.

I now have plenty of untouched books sitting on my shelf - of which, some are on my immediate to-read list, some I still am excited about once the time comes to get to it, some I believe will eventually sneak in between previously mentioned categories or otherwise be replaced by books I buy in the near (and distant) future, some I question why I bought in the first place and wonder if I ever will try tackling them, and others I bought on a whim because, silly reason, the cover or the spine of the book looked "cool" enough to decorate my bookshelf with.

Today, I just bought 6 more books to add to my collection. Moving will be a pain with the additional weight to pack. But at least when it does come to that, I will have plenty of "cool" books to decorate my new living quarters with and I would appear more worldly and well-read to guests than I might actually be. Really though, reading is fun and I do it for the right reasons. Although, the funny thing is I am reading more now than I did before I started working at a bookstore, which probably translates to: I actually care enough about the job to increase my product knowledge. Yay?
