Gotta catch 'em all!

My co-worker, Aaron, is on a quest to capture all 493 Pokémon from scratch and he is blogging about his epic adventure. It is an enjoying read so I greatly recommend you click on the link to his blog on the right. Browsing through his posts got me excited about Pokémon again. It has been years since I left it behind with my Game Boys (old, pocket and colour, remember those?), relicts of my childhood, but the nostalgia did spark the obsession I once had. That obsession never got past the second generation of Pokémon Gold/Silver, so I never had a chance to play the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald ones with the Game Boy Advance and the current versions on the Nintendo DS.

Thanks to Aaron, or not, it is back. The Game Boys are still hidden away somewhere in Singapore and I am too cheap to invest in a DS, so I took to the web, found and installed an emulator that will allow me to play GBA games on my MacBook. For the past two days, I have been on my Pokémon Emerald mission, fighting the bad guys and catching, as much as I can, every Pokémon I come across. Never will I attempt what Aaron is attempting - I do not think trading Pokémon is something my emulator will allow me to do and because I do not have as much a motivation to keep me going. All the best to PokéMaster Aaron!

With the new generation, Black/White, about to be released, it got me thinking if I should buy a DS. On second thought, the Xbox 360 I got in December, the impulse buy of my life-so-far, has not been played much. Besides, my enthusiasm would likely wane off by then.
