The scare the Little Devil gave

Emma has been spending the past few days with us since Marielle is back in SG and Yiwen is at NYC. She will not be living at our place as long as she did last summer since Wen returns on Monday. Nevertheless, these few days have been traumatic, both good and bad. Good, she gave us much joy. Bad, read on.

Last night, we returned home to find her poo all over the house. Oh and a ripped open bar of dark chocolate. I was infuriated with the cleanup I had to do and it was not until she started vomiting after drinking lots of water that it struck me of what Mel had mentioned before: chocolate is poisonous to dogs. We were unsure of how long Emma had ingested the chocolate but we tried purging it out of her anyway by making her lick up water continuously. She did regurgitate quite a bit of a gooey water-chocolate mixture, and when her breathing became laboured, we rushed to the 24-hour Vet Emergency Clinic at Rosedale.

Triage was called when we arrived. The vet gave her some drugs to induce vomiting and then administered activated charcoal to absorb any remaining toxins. It was all done in 2 hours or so and when Emma emerged from the ER, she was very much herself which brought so much relief. We decided to take a stroll and walk home from Rosedale. She enjoyed every moment of it, strutting up Yonge Street and even running after a subway train passing by Davisville.

She is doing great now. If only she learns her lesson to stay away from chocolate.. Who do I kid, dogs never do and definitely will the Little Devil not.
