My sister and I went to watch a Singaporean film, entitled "Sandcastle" directed by Boo Junfeng, at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. The movie has been getting quite the buzz for a Singaporean film, premiering at the Cannes International Film Festival to favourable reviews and making it's way to Toronto too. It was slow-paced and sombre, touching on some sensitive issues from Singapore's past and present. I teared up for two reasons: the subject matter, and the overwhelming nostalgia of seeing Singapore and hearing songs of home from home, especially a cover of Kit Chan's "Home" (See: two posts down).
